CARL
THE BRAND
HSCPH is a Danish fashion company since 2003, founded and owned by creative head Henriette Steffensen. HSCPH is behind the sustainable brands Henriette Steffensen Copenhagen and CARL by Steffensen. Located north of Copenhagen with the ocean and forest as neighbours the HQ is a place of reflection and focus.
Passion and commitment for a sustainable lifestyle, love for creativity and a no waste approach to almost anything, those core values are the drivers of everyday actions and targets.
With a dedicated approach to simplicity and design, CARL by Steffensen – released for sale in fall 2019 – with its selection of super soft sustainable fleece designs, keeps it promise of a long-lasting relationship.
In 2018 and 2019 the company behind CARL by Steffensen was awarded The Gazelle Growth award, based on turnover growth throughout the past 4 years. HSCPH is proud for this acknowledgement and are grateful for the strong relationships they have to the partners and customers.
The inspiration for the new brand for men origins from Henriette Steffensen own everyday life, where the men around her both privately and professionally for many years has asked for a male version of the popular fleece designs. Finally in 2019, CARL by Steffensen became a reality. With its selection of blouses, sweaters, cardigans and accessories this fleece brand fits perfectly for the busy life in the city as well the relaxed country life or living on a boat for that matter.
THE TRUE FLEECE FABRIC
The composition of the Oeko-Tex® certified fabric with 70% of high-quality polyester fibres, and 30% hard spun viscose, creates the unique softness and fluffiness that is so very characteristic for this brand. HSCPH uses many different dye techniques to obtain the special colours and the high colourfastness which gives them the opportunity to create vivid, interesting colour tones inspired by nature’s own colour pallet.
They pledge to highly controlled knitting technology, surface cutting and brushing techniques that ad to the cosy soft sensation and to the volume of the fiber. As HSCPH do not use a high amount of softener in the production the extreme fluffiness of the products will reduce slightly after wash. All the fleece qualities are produced at carefully selected in high level industrial facilities in Italy.
SUSTAINABILITY
HSCPH produce their own Oeko-Tex® certified fabrics in Italy. The minimal environmental chemical impact that this certificate guaranties, is one of their sustainable approaches towards a cleaner future for the planet. Internally and externally they target no waste or low waste, by implementing following in their company:
• Low environmental impact by using certified fabrics
• High usage of all fabrics targeting No Waste
• Transportation by truck and not air – where possible
• Packaging in Polypropylene bags not plastic
• Reusing all carton outer-boxes that we receive
• Sorting our trash into food, metal, paper, plastic and glass for recycling.
The STANDARD 100 by Oeko-Tex® has its origin from Germany, and is a worldwide consistent, independent testing and certification system for raw, semi-finished, and finished textile products at all processing levels. The fabric suppliers are independent knitters, all approved and certified to produce the fabrics under the strictest testing for chemicals and chemical residue. By washing the potential chemical content of a fabric, it is let out into their waterways, the OEKO-TEX® certificate guaranties a maximum reduction of pollution on both the body and in the waterways.
The OEKO-TEX® certificate secures a higher standard than any EU Reach regulation on polluting and banned chemical substances, demands.
